Fortnite's "No Build" Mode Is Active, But You've Got Additional Shielding And Movement Options To Compensate

A few months ago, we heard a rumor that a "no-build" mode was coming to Fortnite. With Chapter 3, Season 2: Resistance hitting live servers this weekend, that's a reality, and it's not the only "Strange" thing about Fornite these days.

"Building has been wiped out!" begins the dev blog for the new season, but you'll have other ways to stay healthy. You now have an Overshield on top of your normal Shield to help you stack your HP, and movement itself has received several buffs: Running speed and sprinting are faster, "mantling" -- a.k.a. grabbing onto a surface with your hands and pulling yourself up -- is a thing, and you can shoulder-bash or slide into doors to make a grand entrance.

There's plenty of new gear to help the Resistance in its fight against IO, including an Armored Battle Bus and loads of unvaulted weapons. Fight for possession of the island's points of interest, and if your vehicle breaks down, grab the new Repair Torch to put it back in tip-top shape.

The battle pass for the new season offers eight new characters, including the Sorceror Supreme himself, Doctor Strange, in the latest Marvel/Fortnite crossover. Nefarious Marvel villain Prowler will join the action and be available later in the season.

Finally, Fortnite-flavored "resistance" isn't just confined to the game. Epic has announced that is donating all its Fornite proceeds from March 20 to April 3 to humanitarian efforts "to humanitarian relief for people affected by the war in Ukraine." Microsoft will do the same for its Xbox proceeds from Fortnite, and the two companies have raised $36 million in just the first day of this initiative.
