We think Epic has really missed a trick with Fornite’s build-free game mode, dubbed Fortnite Zero Build.
To a lot of people’s surprise, the new season of this online-only FPS removed the ability to build structures in battle royale mode. You can still build to your heart’s content in creative mode, but Fortnite Battle Royale is construction-free. Instead, players now have some new athletic abilities, parkour included, to make it easier to elude their enemies.
You can guarantee that, at some point, building will be back but the new Fortnite Zero Build mode means that players will always be able to have a construction-free murder-match. It’s a smart move, not least because while some players love being able to construct their own hidey-holes or gravity-defying vantage points, others have requested that it be yanked. Now everyone’s happy.
Not quite. We can’t believe that Epic called it Fortnite Zero Build instead of just Nite. Come on.. it’s Fortnite minus the forts – could it be any more obvious? Zero Build sounds like some kind of super-strength putty that you’d see the late Billy Mays pitching. And if they went with Nite, Epic could convert all their old merchandise by just covering up half the logo.
Fortnite’s new Fortnite Zero Build battle royale mode is out right now. Fortnite itself is free and is currently available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.
