Xbox Cloud Gaming is an incredible service, allowing subscribers of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to play various games by streaming through the cloud. In doing so, you can literally play these games on supported devices anywhere with internet connected. And because you’re streaming these games through a browser, you don’t need to install them or have a high end gaming device.
Today, Microsoft announced the availability of Fortnite on supported browser-enabled devices for free with Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta) in 26 countries. All you need is a Microsoft account and an iOS, iPadOS, Android phone or tablet or Windows PC with internet access to play. You don’t even need to be an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscriber to play it. It’s completely free.
If you’re interested in playing Fortnite via Xbox Cloud Gaming, simply head to Xbox.com on your browser and sign in to your Microsoft Account. Once you do that, you can squad up with friends and start playing, no installation required. It’s literally that easy.
Fortnite is one of the first free-to-play titles added to the Xbox cloud gaming catalog, although Microsoft noted that they are looking to bring more free-to-play games to the service. Cloud Gaming is already a revolutionary service as it removes the need for installation or to consistently upgrade your PC or mobile device to play the latest games. The addition of free-to-play titles would make it even more attractive.
Other games playable through Xbox Cloud Gaming include Forza Horizon 4, Sea of Thieves, Minecraft Dungeons and Halo: The Master Chief Collection. The recently released Citizen Sleeper and Trek to Yomi, both of which are Xbox Game Pass titles, are also playable via the cloud.
Xbox Cloud Gaming isn’t perfect yet, as you still need a quality internet connection, but Microsoft is making improvements each and every day. Have you played any games through the cloud yet?
