The season of frights and scares has begun once again. It's time for Halloween and before the young kids go trick-or-treating and the adults hit up their costume parties, dozens of video games are getting into the spirit with seasonal events. We're going to endeavor to keep track of as many of them as we can, so let's take a look at what to expect.
Here are the Halloween events we've managed to track down. We'll post start and end dates whenever they're made available.

Fortnitemares (October 18 - November 1)
Fortnitemares has returned with a party at Alteration Alter. DJ Lyka is here for some hair-raising scares. Head to the Reality Tree and perform the Ritual Emote to receive the Howler Claws. Equip the Howler Claws to get the Wolfscent Ability, which gives you werewolf tracking vision. Track your enemies, but more importantly, know when you are being tracked yourself. Once you find your foes, take them down with the Slash and Air Slash abilities.
Meanwhile, Horde Rush is back, but with more of a challenge. This is Zero Build Horde Rush. Try and survive the legions of Cube Monsters without the aid of your building tools. Unlike the rest of Fortnitemares, Zero Build Horde Rush will stick around until November 15.
To learn more details and to see the custom goodies you can pick up over the course of the next few weeks, visit the Fortnite website.

Yes, anyone who dies can return in Shadow Form and will keep coming back until the entire squad is eliminated.
You can also find a handful of new seasonal cosmetics throughout the month. For more on the full holiday schedule, be sure to visit the Apex Legends website.

Ooblets is a recent release, but the development team is already kicking off its first holiday event. Players can head over to Badgetown to pick up a free pumpkin pail from a Halloween stand, at which point they can start trick-or-treating with various NPCs. They can then take all the candy they collect and exchange them for different Ooblet and player accessories, as well as decorative items.
On top of that, players should check their mail, where they'll find a riddle that awaits in the Nullwhere region. There's a special surprise that awaits for those who manage to solve this mysterious riddle.
Be sure to check out our recent Ooblets review.
Minecraft: Spookyfest (October 4 - November 9)
Minecraft's Spookyfest event is one that will span two games. Minecraft will start offering new Marketplace items starting on October 4. On top of that, Minecraft players can find new mutated mobs and mini-games to help get into the season.
That sets the stage for Spooky Fall, which will run from October 26 through November 9. Minecraft Dungeons players can take on the Spooky Fall trials, which will include limited-time rewards. Meanwhile, Minecraft players can pick up a special skin pack that contains 13 outfits straight out of Minecraft Dungeons.
Learn more about Spookyfest over at the Minecraft website.
Team Fortress 2: Scream Fortress XIV (October 5 - November 7)
It's one of our favorite annual traditions here at Shacknews. It's time for TF2's Scream Fortress event, in which thousands of players gather to play a seasonal variant of Valve's team-based shooter. You certainly don't have to tell us that Valve has long since stopped trying with this event and that they are very fortunate to have one of the most dedicated player bases in gaming, because the community has once again come through with some exciting new additions.
Jump into six new community maps: Soul-Mill, Helltrain, Bonesaw, Crasher, Ghoulpit, and Spookeyridge. Pick up a Ghoulish Gains Case that contains some new community-created cosmetic items or grab some community-crafted Taunts from the Mann Co. Store.
All Halloween Contracts have been reset, so everyone will be starting fresh this year. Scream Fortress will run through November 7. You can check out more details over on the Team Fortress website.
Warframe: Nights of Naberus (October 5 - November 2)
Warframe celebrates October every year with the annual Nights of Naberus event. Players celebrate the ancient Orokin festival of death, which has come to the Infested Moon of Mars Deimos. Search for Mother Tokens and exchange them for seasonal goodies, which include both offerings from past years and also a few new exclusive items. Check out a short list over on the Warframe website.
Back 4 Blood: Halloween in Fort Hope (October 11 - November 1)
Developer Turtle Rock is not finished with Back 4 Blood. In fact, the team is getting into the Halloween season with the new October 2022 update. The Halloween in Fort Hope event will feature Seasonal Caravans, which will contain special Cleaner and Weapon Skins.
Scary decorations and spooky music will help add to the ambiance, but the most frightening thing about this update is also a permanent one, as the October 2022 update adds No Hope matchmaking, making Back 4 Blood more unforgiving than ever before. Be sure to check out the Back 4 Blood website for more information.
Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier (October 12 - November 1)
No, you're not seeing things. Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier is getting a Halloween event. Yes, the same Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier that's less than three months away from shutting down forever.
Zombies have risen across the battlefield. In fact, you have a chance to join a match as a zombie, at which point your mission will be to turn as many players into zombies as you can. If all living players have been turned, the zombies win the match.
Halloween candy will be scattered across the map, which can then be exchanged for special event-exclusive skins and items. That's right, you make sure your character looks its coolest for the three months or so that this game has left to live.
If you want to learn more, check out the Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier website. Enjoy this game while it's still around.
Dead By Daylight: Haunted by Daylight (October 13 - November 3)
The Entity's Realm will become a grim and dark place... well... grimmer and darker, anyway. There's a mysterious rift in the sky and all Dead By Daylight players should notice that things are looking noticeably festive for the Halloween holiday.
There are some new holiday cosmetics to pick up during this year's Haunted by Daylight event. Gather up Void Energy and deposit it at an Unstable Rift to claim your spoils. If you're a Survivor, gather it by reparing Halloween Generators, stun a Killer with Void Energy, or bash a pumpkin in. If a pumpkin doesn't have Void Energy, it just might give you a buff anyway... or a nerf. Who knows? Killers can gather Void Energy by hanging Survivors on Halloween Hooks, downing a Survivor with Void Energy, or taking out their rage on pumpkins themselves. There should be three Unstable Rifts available when a trial begins, but hurry and find them before they close.
There are a lot of cosmetics and freebies to be found during the Haunted by Daylight event. Check out the Dead By Daylight website to learn more.
Killing Floor 2: Blood and Bonfires (October 13 - November 10)
Get ready to jump into an exciting new map as part of Killing Floor 2's free Blood and Bonfires update. Step into Barmwich Town, a medieval town that has been overrun by Zeds. The new map is open to Survival, Weekly, and Endless game modes, so gather your friends and get ready to take on hordes of Zeds.
You'll also find seasonal objectives for this event. Complete them all to earn a Plague Doctor Backpack. Plus, find Halloween Treat Prize Tickets and Golden Prize Tickets to collect your share of themed cosmetics.
Killing Floor 2: Blood and Bonfires is underway and you can learn more over on the Tripwire Interactive website.
Pikmin Bloom (October 14-31)
Pikmin Bloom hass launched its first Halloween event. Look for new Jack-O'-Lantern Decor Pikmin to pop up for a limited time throughout the month of October. Try and collect as many as possible throughout the first part of the event, because they'll prove handy throughout the event's second half. Use those Jack-O'-Lantern Decor Pikmin to destroy strange "Halloween" mushrooms that pop up in nearby surroundings.
You can also earn Gold Seedlings over the course of the event by completing Activity List tasks. Use those to grow Purple, White, Rock, or even Winged Jack-O'-Lantern Decor Pikmin. To learn more about what you can get during this month's Halloween event, including Halloween Postcards, check out the Pikmin Bloom website.
MultiVersus Halloween Event (October 15 - November 15)
MultiVersus' first ever Halloween event is about to kick off. The idea here will be to earn Candy by playing games against humans or bots. Win or lose, you'll pick up some Candy. That Candy can then be exchanged for goodies, including Profile Icons, Emote Stickers, Variant costumes, and more. If you need some extra Gold, you can exchange 500 Candy for 10 Gold. At the rate of 20 Candy per win and 10 per loss, earning Gold this way might take a while. Fortunatley, you can play as Combat Stripe or Combat Gizmo to earn bonus Candy.
Look for special cosmetics to be available throughout the season for Gleamium, as well. Take a look at the MultiVersus patch notes to learn more.
World of Warships: Legends (October 17 - November 7)
World of Warships: Legends is getting a three-week seasonal event for any console players taking the high seas. Titled "A Light in the Dark," players must band together in order to take down the evil and mighty Rasputin. Rich rewards await those who can take down the fiend, which include cosmetics for both ship personnel and the warships themselves.
Learn more about this event, as well as other cool things on the horizon, over at the World of Warships: Legends website.
Knockout City: Holo-Ween (October 18 - November 1)
Knockout City confirmed that its Holo-Ween event would return when the dev team laid out its Season 7 roadmap.
Candy Wars will return as a limited-time mode, but it is undergoing a few tweaks. In this three-team dance, any KO'd brawlers will drop candy. The first team to collect 50 pieces of candy wins. In an effort to help your team out, if you get KO'd, your spirit becomes an Ultimate Throw, which can be used for a revenge hit. Make the most of it.
Halloween-themed contracts, cosmetics, and bundles will be available throughout this year's event. To learn more about this year's Holo-Ween, visit the Knockout City website.
Destiny 2: Festival of the Lost (October 18 - November 8)
Destiny 2 is ready to party again with the latest Festival of the Lost. For this year, the theme is mech suits. Put on your Festival mask and explore the Tower for candy. Take that candy over to Eva, who will offer you special holiday prizes.
Meanwhile, the Headless Ones are once again running rampant in the Haunted Sectors. Gather your friends and get ready to take them out, as they've also spread to a new location on the EDZ. The new Mechabre Sniper Rifle might give you a leg up on those pumpkin-headed creeps.
For more on this year's Destiny 2: Festival of the Lost event, including details on a cat-themed Sparrow, check out the Bungie website.
Guild Wars 2: Shadow of the Mad King (October 18 - November 8)
As indicated by the Guild Wars 2 Fall and Winter roadmap, the annual Shadow of the Mad King event will make its return. It will be open to all players at Level 10 or higher and will feature a number of seasonal rewards.
Answer the call left behind by Magister Tassi and step into the Mad Realm. Use your Invitation to travel back and forth between Tyria and the Mad King's Labyrinth. Here, you'll find dangerous monsters, race tracks for your mounts, and haunted doors housing special Trick-or-Treat Bags. If you want to challenge yourself to a classic GW2 jumping puzzle, step into the Mad King's Clock Tower and escape fast, because the floor is miasma! Naturally, the Mad King will be ready to take on all comers. Those ready to brave his wrath can access this special dungeon through Lion's Arch.
As always, find an abundance of Candy Corn throughout the world and exchange for cool seasonal items. Check out the Guild Wars 2 website to see what you can get.
Final Fantasy 14 Online: All Saints' Wake (October 19 - November 1)
It's All Saints' Wake time again in Final Fantasy 14 Online. It's actually the second time this event has happened in 2022 with Square Enix acknowledging that it's now back to its normal October slot. The big draw this year is a new quest called A Mad Masquerade. The Adventurers' Guild is ready for a new journey, but you'll have to talk to its investigator to learn more details.
Special seasonal items include a Wake Doctor's Outfit for all classes, a new emote where your character can munch on pumpkin cookies at any time, and there are new photo spots along the Haunted Manor. Track down the unsavory imp to get into costume and enjoy this year's event. Visit the Final Fantasy 14 Online Lodestone to learn more.
Rocket League: Haunted Hallows (October 19 - November 1)

Meet Billy the Puppet from Saw, Chucky from Child's Play, Leatherface from Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Sam from Trick 'r Treat. They're all here to contribute cool collectibles to your Rocket League vehicle, like new Decals, Goal Explosions, Wheels, and more.
Farmstead Arena will transform into a new holiday variant just in time for some new limited-time game modes. Spooky Cube is a new Halloween-themed Super Cube, which messes around with the Rocket League ball while also replacing it with a cubic Jack-o'-Lantern. You can also take part in Heatseeker mode, which will be available for the duration of the event.
Take a look at the cosmetics and some of what you'll be seeing during Haunted Hallows over on the Rocket League website.
Dreams: All Hallows' The Land of Lost Dreams (October 20 - November 1)
As with all things related to Media Molecule's content builder, Dreams' Halloween event is being propped up by its community. The developer had previously asked the player base to create things to explore in the new spooky areas put together by Media Molecule. What they've come up with is pretty astounding.
PlayStation.Blog has all the details on Dreams' big Halloween event.
Grand Theft Auto Online (October 20-27)
It's become an annual tradition in Grand Theft Auto Online, but the Beast vs. Slasher Adversary Mode is back. This is the game mode where a team of Beasts are boosted with additional speed and agility. They must avoid the team of Slashers, who have extra armor and heavy weaponry. Participate in this game to pick up double GTA$ and RP.
Elsewhere, you can also pick up double GTA$ and RP for taking part in Exotic Exports deliveries. This should be simple enough on paper, but there do seem to be sightings of a rogue Cerberus truck. Better watch out for that.
You can also find a slew of freebies just for logging in. Learn more about GTA Online's Halloween fun over on the Rockstar Games website.
Two Point Campus (October 20-27)
Class is in session for Two Point Campus' latest update. Halloween Update 2.0 introduces the holiday to Sega's university. This includes new music, seasonal decor, and some intriguing new features.
Challenge Mode is introduced with this latest update. Take on The Siege of Noblestead, where players must ward off a mob of zombies forming on campus and hold them off as long as possible. After that, get ready for Pumpkin High, which sees players dealing with students transformed into pumpkin-headed monstrosities.
Decorate your dorm, be on the lookout for creepy crawlies under the bed, and look for the Halloween spirit (or spirits) to spread throughout the campus for the next week. It'll be available for the next week, though Switch players are going to get it a little late and may have it slightly longer. Follow the Two Point Community page for any updates.
Rust (October 20 - November 3)
It's Trick-or-Treat time in Rust! The candy hunt begins every two in-game days, where players will have only three minutes to collect as many candies as they can. Finish in the top 3 and receive special loot bags, which can contain valuable crafting materials or even rare weaponry. If you need an edge in this contest, track down the Pumpkin Bucket item for instant pickups or dress up in Scarecrow Wrap or the Ghost Costume to get Candy Vision.
Learn more about this year's event over on the Rust website.
For Honor: Web of the Jorogumo (October 20 - November 10)
For Honor introduces a new four-player PvE co-op event with its Web of the Jorogumo event. A team will start out in a Market Town variant with the objective to escort Meiko out safely. Standing in the way are possessed samurai, as well as the fearsome spider Jorogumo himself. Beyond this, players can also expect to pick up some new seasonal skins.
The Halloween event will also bring something more permanent and exciting to For Honor: cross-platform play. As soon as Web of the Jorogumo begins, all For Honor players can jump into games with their friends on other platforms. Just make sure you're logged in to your Ubisoft Connect account.
Learn more about For Honor's Web of the Jorogumo event over on the Ubisoft website.
Pokemon GO Halloween Event (October 20-31)
More information has come in about Pokemon GO's Halloween event. The first thing to note is that Giratina (both Altered Forme and Origin Forme) will make its return in Five-Star Raids. If you capture it, it will know the Charged Attack Shadow Force.
There are three noteworthy debuts for Pokemon GO this Halloween. Find Mega Banette in Mega Raids, plus be sure to look around for Shiny Galarian Yamask and Shiny Noibat. If you hatch a Noibat out of a 7km Egg, there's a chance it will be Shiny. Wild encounters will include Zubat, Gastly, Haunter, Spinarak, Murkrow, Misdreavus, Sableye, Shuppet, Dusclops, Absol, Drifloon, Yamask, Golett, Phantump, and Pumpkaboo. There's a chance that you might find a Shiny among these. All of this is for Part I, which Niantic notes will last from October 20-27. Stay tuned for more information on what the team has planned for the event's remaining four days. Learn more about Part 1 on the Pokemon GO website.
Look for new Halloween-themed Special Research, as well as some bonuses. Look for double Catch Candy, double Hatch Candy, and double Transfer Candy, while players who are at Level 31 or higher will get a guaranteed Candy XL for walking with their buddy. PokeStops and Gyms will be decorated for the season and, of course, expect to hear the soothing sounds of a remixed Lavender Town theme.
Prepare for the big Halloween event with the October Community Day, which will feature Litwick. Evolve your Lampent on that day or up to five hours after it's over to receive a Chandelure that knows the Charged Attack Poltergeist. Pokemon GO's October Community Day takes place on Saturday, October 15 from 2-5 p.m. local time.
Turbo Golf Racing (October 24 - November 2)
Blending together motorized cars and golf is a wacky combination, but now it's time to sprinkle in a dose of the supernatural. Turbo Golf Racing is kicking off its first Halloween event as part of the Tricks 'N Treats Update. This limited-time event will allow players to unlock a handful of themed cosmetics, like the Haunted Pumpkin Avatar, the Pumpkin Ball, Pumpkin and Bats decal set, Bats boost trail, and Pumpkin boost trail.
Players will also find a Boost Canister scattered throughout each course. For now, this will only be available for the Halloween event, but remember that Turbo Golf Racing is in early access. If this feature proves popular, the developers are open to keeping it around full-time.
Check out the Turbo Golf Racing Steam page to learn more about the Tricks 'N Treats Update.
Cult of the Lamb (October 24 - November 10)
Given exactly what kind of game Cult of the Lamb is, why wouldn't it have a Halloween event? Naturally, this game's event revolves around necromancy and blood rituals. The Blood Moon Festival has begun and players can perform the titular Blood Moon Ritual to raise former members of their cult from the dead. You can also unlock three new Follower Forms and four new Base Decorations, which will help you get into the spirit of the festival.
You can learn more about the Blood Moon Festival, as well as the latest patch notes and some hints as to what else is on the way, over on the Cult of the Lamb Steam page.
Crypt of the NecroDancer: Synchrony (October 24 - November 13)
Crypt of the NecroDancer has been around for years, but folks might have noticed that the game recently got new DLC in early access. Synchrony is not only adding new content, but it will also usher in a brand new Halloween event.
The fight for candy is on in the new Trick-or-Treat versus mode. Enemies will drop gold, but they'll also drop candy. Bosses will drop even more candy once they're defeated. Beware, though, because if you die, you'll lose half your candy. You can eat ten pieces of candy to heal yourself, but keep in mind that in order to win, you must have more candy than your opponent at the end of the round.
You can learn more about this new seasonal event over on the Crypt of the NecroDancer Steam page, which will also offer the latest patch notes. The Treat-or-Treat versus mode will be available until November 13, but you must have the Synchrony DLC to play.
Hunt: Showdown (October 26 - November 9)
Hunt: Showdown's Update 1.10 has added some appropriately scary things to the game, just in time for the Halloween season. Look for new Halloween-themed Questlines, which will have you smashing pumpkins, crushing monsters, and finding various seasonal items. You'll also find an exclusive new Hunter and weapon to add to the roster. Stay tuned for more about Hunt: Showdown's Halloween event before it launches on the 26th.
Hunt: Showdown is coming off its recent 1.10 update, in which players can add the new Stalker Beetle consumable. This can be used to peek behind walls, scout ahead, or even in combat. This is interesting in that it'll change a lot of approaches to the game, so keep your eyes open for this new item.
Other Questlines have also been added to the game, which can be unlocked through watching Hunt: Showdown on Twitch or through other ways. To learn more about this feature, check out the Hunt: Showdown website.

Four new heroes take center stage and players will look to earn special rewards, including a Nightfall Over Adlersbrunn Name Card, the Jack-o'-Lantern Weapon Charm, Battle Pass XP, and more. Plus, log in to get some free goodies!
Overwatch 2's Halloween Terror event will last until November 9. Check out the Overwatch website for more details.

Lastly, if you simply want anything to play on Halloween, whether it be a game with a Halloween event or something generally spooky, you can jump into the Steam Scream Fest. This sale will also feature new Game Profiles in the Point Shop to go alongside the dozens of discounts across Valve's storefront. The Steam Scream Fest will last until November 1.
These are the major Halloween events across video games that we've spotted for 2022. Inevitably, some will fall during the cracks. If there are any major events that we missed, join the conversation and let us know in the comments. We'll keep this list updated throughout the month of October.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
