It’s Likely ‘Fortnite’ May Delay The Doomsday Countdown Event And Season 3 Yet Again

Fortnite chapter 3 season 4. Like most fortnite live events, this one will have a countdown in the lobby once the season gets closer to finishing. The countdown that has started appearing in your fortnite lobby screen is for the chapter 2 finale live event, which is set to take place on december 4th, 2021 at.

It was only a matter of time until the civil unrest in the United States would be so widespread it would affect something in my little corner of the universe, video games, and while nothing in that sphere is remotely as important as what’s going on in real life right now, it’s what I can cover.

In the past day alone, two very large video game events have been postponed in the wake of what’s happening in the US, protesters in the streets of hundreds of cities in the wake of George Floyd’s murder, protests compounded by police escalation and looting. We have seen Sony postpone its PS5 debut event scheduled for this Thursday, and late last night, Call of Duty postponed the release of Warzone season 4. Both do not have new dates.

Next on the potential chopping block? My guess is Fortnite Chapter 2, season 3, along with its “Doomsday Countdown” event scheduled to end this Saturday at 2 PM ET.

Fortnite has already delayed the new season twice, first by more than a month, then by a week more recently. That was just due to internal issues and them needing more time while trying to coordinate all this working from home (remember the pandemic?), but now it seems possible that they might just push the season back even further as this has become a somewhat accepted “this isn’t the time” moment in the video game industry.

While Fortnite is not Call of Duty with its militarized cop characters and militarized…military, having something that’s a “Doomsday Countdown” doesn’t seem ideal for the current moment. Not to mention that what is coming is likely widespread destruction of the map. We have already seen that the Doomsday Device will blow a crater in The Agency, and much of the map may be destroyed due to flooding. While it’s not a direct equivalent, real life widespread property destruction is happening right now, so it’s not a great look.

Above all else, however, regardless of the theme of a game, companies just really don’t seem to want to be marketing right now. And for good reason. If these protests continue through next week, it’s not great to be debuting some fun new colorful Fortnite season across social media channels surrounded by videos of police brutality and flaming landmarks. Almost anything put on social media that isn’t related to the protests right now seems tone deaf.

We will see what happens. We are now four days away from the Doomsday event happening, but Epic waited until last Thursday to push the event back a week, so there’s still time. I’m not saying they have to, but it does seem increasingly likely as more and more games and brands in the industry alter their plans so the focus can remain on what’s truly important in real life.
