- Destiny 2's New Season of the Seraph Ornaments and Crossover Sets Bode Well For the Future
Destiny 2's Season of the Seraph introduces plenty of new ornaments that players can get for free, and it also sets a new high for crossover sets.
Destiny 2's Season of Seraph introduced plenty of cosmetic items that players can obtain and then keep after the seasonal content is gone. From a partnership with Ubisoft, the holiday's Dawning event, the return of Iron Banner, and the seasonal armor combo, to the individual Arc 3.0 set, Destiny 2 fashion enthusiasts have been blessed with possibilities. These cosmetic armor ornaments come in addition to the preexisting method for transmogrifying armor, adding several options to the ornament and shader combinations available on Legendary armor pieces for each of the three player classes.
The current transmog system was first introduced in Destiny 2's Season 14 and has no intention of changing anytime soon, peacefully coexisting with the Eververse store of cosmetic microtransactions and expansions. Transmogrifying Legendary armor has been limited to unlocking 10 new pieces for each character that players own in a given Season, requiring Synthchord currency earned from Ada-1's bounties. This total of 10 armor ornaments in current Seasons is a mere half of the original total of 20 from the Season that implemented the transmog system, and this number dwindles the more players expect to acquire ornaments for the original armor models introduced in every Season. In addition to currency limitations, transmogrifying armor also requires players to have discovered the desired armor before it becomes available as an ornament, making for a painfully slow grind to unlock every Destiny 2 armor ornament.
New Ornaments Obtainable Without Synthcord Weaves
The new ornaments are obtained separately from the existing transmog currency, increasing the total obtainable amount of ornaments specific to this Season for Guardians with any number of characters. A new total of 35 ornaments introducing in this season, and that's per character, making Season of Seraph among the most generous seasons for fashion. The 2022 Dawning and Arc 3.0 sets, as well as the crossover event ornaments from Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed series are available for purchase from the Eververse store, while the seasonal armor ornament variations are earned by progressing through the paid version of the Season Pass.
If the previous crossover set any kind of expectations for similar events in the future, the new ornaments were expected to be available for Bright Dust throughout the Season, but this is not going to be the case. All cosmetics are currently available in the game, except thereturning Iron Banner ornament set, expecting to arrive during Season 19's week-long debut of Iron Banner on January 4, following the conclusion of the Dawning event. The Dawning ornament sets may not be permanently available, following the conclusion of the holiday-themed event, so players wanting to acquire the set should be mindful of that.
Newest Destiny 2 Armor Crossover
when is magnum coming back fortnite
The new Assassin's Creed armor ornaments make for the second crossover on Destiny 2's end since the Fortnite sets from Season of Plunder. On the topic of crossover events, outside of cosmetics, Bungie previously added an ode to their involvement with older Halo games by recreating the Magnum pistol in Dares of Eternity, among other weapon ports from the series. Even outside of Destiny 2, Guardians made a one-sided appearance as skins in Fall Guys this year, back in September 2022. These are just some of the explicit references to other game series, with numerous smaller references riddled throughout Destiny 2's additional cosmetic items, particularly the Ghost shells, ship variants, and Sparrow vehicles.
The past two years for Destiny 2 have shown a lot of promise for the potential of the content beyond Seasons and major expansion packs. Going forward, Destiny 2 should continue to branch out to mutually include cosmetic elements from game characters and maybe even mascots across other video games. Some Destiny 2 fans have created desired crossovers themselves as well as other suggestions for cosmetics on social media. The community as a whole would certainly be eager to see future crossovers shake up the game's events beyond cosmetics to once again add to the long list of fluid weaponry, though at any capacity the references continue to be warmly welcomed.
Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
