- Pokemon Fan Recolors Dragonite to Make It More in Line With Dragonair
One Pokemon fan recolors Dragonite to match more closely with Dragonair, as Dragonite's coloring is nothing like its previous forms.
When it comes to evolutions in Pokemon, the majority of the monsters follow a fairly logical evolutionary path. A lot of Pokemon start out as cute, infantile creatures before evolving into something bigger, badder, and looking more combat-ready, although they tend to retain some of their characteristics regardless. This usually can include color scheme, although one Pokemon curiously has nothing in common color-wise with its predecessor: Dragonite.
Part of the first generation of Pokemon, Dragonite is a pseudo-legendary Dragon/Flying-type often featured in the long-running anime series. While Dragonite has yet to be confirmed as a returning Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the highly anticipated game's first trailer shows a Dratini water fountain, lending to the possibility of Dratini and therefore Dragonite's inclusion.
A Reddit user with the handle of u/Chocoa_the_Bunny is getting hundreds of likes for their thoughtful recoloring of Dragonite. The Pokemon's two previous forms Dratini and Dragonair both sport a near-identical color scheme, as well as a very similar appearance. Both have a serpent-like appearance, featuring blue skin with a white underside and either fins or wings adorning their head. Dragonite's color scheme is a light orange with a cream underbelly, and green wings, sharing zero colors with its prior forms. The Pokemon fan addresses this, giving Dragonite a more logical coloring reflecting its earlier evolutions.
Fans' comments are approving of the color change, stating the unified coloring is much more sensible. The Reddit user isn't alone in feeling like there's a disjunct between Dragonair and Dragonite's appearance, as another Pokemon fan has gone a step further to "fix" Dragonite. In addition to giving the Dragon/Flying pseudo-legendary a similar recoloring, another user named 5H1N0B1-2O gives Dragonite more of the features present with Dragonair. The reworked version replaces Dragonite's bat-like wings with white feathered ones, and restores the wings on the sides of its head present in its previous evolution.
While Dragonite's odd coloring is basically set in stone, many Pokemon fans are calling for the recolored version to be introduced as a potential new shiny or even a regional variant. However, this isn't the only fan-made Pokemon variant idea catching on recently. One artistically talented Pokemon fan has created a new regional variant for Relicanth, giving the ancient Pokemon a significantly different appearance. The variant also receives a color scheme change, getting reddish scales along with fearsome teeth and an appetite for Magikarp. While both redesigns are fan, Pokemon developers have a wealth of inspiration via their fanbase.
