fortnite end countdown
It’s been quite a while since Fortnite had a countdown to an actual live event, but as of the server’s coming back online after a patch today, that’s changed. We are indeed headed for another of the game’s famed live events, ones which tend to end up topping each other the more of them take place.
A new countdown timer has appeared on the main lobby screen of the game, currently set to end ten days and some odd hours from now, depending on the time you read this. If you do the math, the end result is that the live event should be taking place:
Friday, August 6 at 6 PM ET, 3 PM PT.
So mark you calendars if you want to see whatever’s about to happen. And we may have at least some idea, according to recent leaks. Maybe not for the event itself, but perhaps things leading up to that event.
Reportedly what’s going to happen is that different named areas are going to be broken apart and abducted by the mothership, including Coral Cove, Slurpy Swamp and Corny Complex, which will start floating like the zones we’ve seen abducted inside the mothership.
Again, I don’t think this is literally what the event itself will be, and this part may unfold in stages leading up to that event. Right now, the mothership remains inactive in the game.
After that? Who knows. We have already had an invasion going on all season long, so it’s possible the mothership alters the geography of the entire map somehow with an Independence Day style laser blast or something. But knowing Fortnite, I would expect something more elaborate than that, given the scale of past events which have involved meteor strikes and giant monster fights. Regardless of what happens, it’s probably not going to be something you want to miss.
We’ll have to see how things unfold over the next few days, and when different “lead up” events may start. This has been a generally well-received season with all the alien stuff, and I genuinely am having trouble envisioning what the finale could be to top it all off. I assume whatever happens, the mothership won’t be around for another full season after this, but we’ll have to see. No doubt the events will lead into the theme and scope of next season somehow.
More to come, and stay watching the skies. Or you know, the giant mothership covering most of the sky.
