The Twitter account for DiGiorno Pizza made a sing-song attempt to play on words from The Sound of Music during the Academy Awards and it went terribly wrong.

For being a frozen pizza company, one would think DiGiorno would keep it relatively tame on Twitter and other social media venues. Toss up a few pictures of pizzas, maybe shout out to a sponsor here and there. Keep it simple. It’s pizza after all.

But lo and behold, mere moments after Lady Gaga sang a fantastic rendition of several songs from the 50-year-old classic film The Sound of Music, there was DiGiorno, tweeting about ovens mere minutes after the commemoration of a film that rallies against Nazi rule.

Sigh. Oh, DiGiorno. When will you learn? You see, this isn’t the first time the frozen pizza conglomerate put themselves needlessly in hot water with a tweet that might be trying a little too hard.

You’ll remember this gem from last September, in which the company tweeted “You had pizza” in response to the #WhyIStayed trend that began after the Ray Rice domestic violence case went public.

Let’s just say it might be time for DiGiorno to focus more on its nemesis, delivery pizza, and maybe leave the jokes to those more accustomed to tweeting them during live events.
